Journey into the Wild Heart of Mangystau
The Karagiye Depression → The Senek Sands → Onere Spring and 4 more stops

The Senek Sands are named after the village they have been trying to swallow for years. From a ridge the golden dunes run to the horizon, and it is easy to believe you are standing in the Sahara.
The Senek Sands are a dune field 130 kilometres from Aktau, named after the village they have been trying to swallow for years. From the ridge the golden dunes run to the horizon in a single wave.
The sand is fine and mobile: the pattern of ripples changes after every wind, and yesterday's tyre tracks are gone by morning. That is why photographs from here are never the same, even from the same spot.
The dunes lie on the way to the southern locations, so they usually enter routes as a stop: climb the ridge, run down the slope and drive on.
Honest numbers before you take the wheel. We are not selling an adventure — we are explaining what you would be dealing with.
Driving here yourself requires four-wheel drive and a water supply: there are no fuel stations or services on the route.
