Tuzbair is a rocky terrain and salt flat at the foot of the Ustyurt Plateau: snow-white salt pans and limestone outliers against a blue sky, with escarpments, wind-carved ruins and open steppe following one another closely.
Tuzbair is a rocky terrain and salt flat in the south-west of the Mangystau region, at the foot of the Ustyurt Plateau. Snow-white salt pans and limestone hills sit side by side against a blue sky and ochre soil — a landscape unlike any other part of Mangystau.
The terrain is remarkably varied and impresses even seasoned travellers: rock escarpments, wind-carved outliers, salt-flat basins and open steppe follow one another over short distances.
It is worth staying at least a full day: the same cliffs look entirely different in the soft morning light, the sharp midday sun and the golden glow of sunset — and at night their silhouettes stand out against a sky full of stars.

Driving here yourself requires four-wheel drive and a water supply: there are no fuel stations or services on the route.
